I spent this weekend at a cabin outside of Welches, OR near Mt. Hood. We headed out there Friday afternoon and stuck around through Sunday afternoon. Saturday and Sunday were hiking-filled days.
On Saturday we headed out Lolo Pass Road and hiked toward McNeil Point. The weather was flat out amazing. Blue skies, warm temperatures, and no wind. Perfect. On Sunday we took a far more well-traveled route out to Mirror Lake.
- It may look remote but this is just about 20 minutes up from the car. We started in the middle of the day so the light wasn’t great for photos but it made for a nice warm hike.
- There were a couple gorgeous meadows along the trail, too. The wildflowers were definitely blooming.
- Kept getting these wonderful views of the mountain no matter where we turned.
- The view from our turn-around spot. Took a nice 20 minute nap in the meadow looking up at this.
- If you squint you’ll see a frog on Leah’s foot. She was wading in the pond and the little guy just latched on and hung out for a while.
- Turn-around point for the hike. From here you can keep hiking up an hour or so to McNeil Point. It was getting late in the day so we turned around and hiked the 4 miles back to the car.
- I love the volcanic rock up against the snow and trees. One of the best parts of the Cascades.
- Small engine plane flew by while having lunch, aka Daniel in a year.
- The reason Mirror Lake is named as such.
